Looking Back…
It’s hard to believe that Astoria Hot Springs reopened just over five years ago! Of course, our history runs much deeper. From the early 1800s, when beaver trappers and Shoshone guides traveled these lands, to the early 1900s when Johnny Counts built the original cabin, this place has long been a gathering ground. By the mid-1900s, structured pools welcomed community members to soak, relax, and connect in the healing waters.
In the early 2000s, a renewed vision took shape to preserve and revitalize the hot springs. That effort, built on years of community determination, paved the way for Astoria’s reopening in September 2020.

Looking Ahead…
And we’re just getting started! Astoria Park Conservancy has adopted a new three-year strategic plan to guide the next chapter of growth. Over the coming years, we will thoughtfully phase in new structures and amenities across our 100-acre riverfront park. Plans include expanded gathering spaces, improved access, pond restoration, and integrated programming that connects the hot springs and the surrounding park.
All of this is rooted in our mission: to provide equitable access to natural resources for education, well-being, and a sense of belonging for all.
This vision has been made possible thanks to our patrons, community members, board, visitors, and dedicated team. Together, we’ve transformed Astoria into a place where connection, healing, and the natural world come together — something we are deeply honored to steward here in the Snake River Canyon.
“Astoria Park Conservancy is in a strong place to step into its next chapter,” said Paige Byron, outgoing Executive Director. “I’m excited to see how this land and its rare riverfront park continue to be developed into a community treasure for generations to come.”

By the Numbers…
Since reopening September 2020, in partnership with the Trust for Public Land, Astoria Park Conservancy has:
• Added one cold plunge pool in 2022 alongside the five hot spring pools
• Welcomed over 200,000 visitors from around the world
• Enrolled 313 children in 2355 swimming lesson sessions
• Hosted 473 first responders for wellness classes and restorative soaks
• Held two wellness retreats, offered 49 wellness classes, and hosted 21 community events
• Achieved Business Emerald Sustainability (BEST) Certification (which entails rigorous adherence to 108 sustainability line items) plus Sustainable Business Leader status
• In 2025, 256 community members contributed nearly 400 hours removing over 9,700 invasive plants and preventing the spread of 105 pounds of seed.
We look forward to building on this incredible momentum and to welcoming you — our community and visitors alike — to continue experiencing Astoria in the years ahead.
