SUMMARY:CAMPFIRE
DESCRIPTION:CAMPFIRE presents: Aaron Niequist | April 13\, 6-7:30p at Astoria Hot Springs – ALL AGES | with FREE Soak beginning at 3:45p \n*Registration required for CAMPFIRE event by clicking here* \n*RSVP requested for pre-soak (email travis@stjohnsjackson.org)* \n  \nWhy talk about religion? Or spirituality? Or spiritual practices?  What resonances and gifts do ancient spiritual practices have to offer\, given the bankruptcy of so many modern religious institutions? What role can spiritual practices play in cultivating a life of whole-person wellness? \n  \nThis month\, CAMPFIRE invites you for an exploration of these questions — both “in the current” of Astoria Hot Springs\, and in conversation with the author of The Eternal Current in Johnny Counts Cabin (hearty snacks and drinks provided). \n  \nWe invite community members of all ages to join us for a free soak; and then to help us welcome our CAMPFIRE conversation partner for April: Aaron Niequist\, an author and thought-leaders who has served in some of America’s most successful churches\, and now centers his creative efforts around reimagining spiritual practices in expansive\, life-giving ways for modern seekers. \n\nAaron Niequist is a liturgist\, writer\, and pastor. After leading worship at Mars Hill Church (Grand Rapids\, MI) and Willow Creek Church (Barrington\, IL)\, Aaron created A New Liturgy – a collection of modern liturgical worship recordings. Shortly after\, he started a discipleship-focused\, formational\, ecumenical\, practice-based community at Willow Creek called The Practice. In 2018\, he released a book about a practice-based faith called The Eternal Current: How a Practice-Based Faith Can Save Us from Drowning\, and continues to create resources to help us all flesh it out. He lives in New York City with his wife Shauna\, and boys\, Henry and Mac. \nAs the traditional church becomes obsolete for many as a vessel for holding meaning\, and in the midst of an oversaturated culture of “spiritual but not religious offerings\,” Niequist’s work invites us to consider the deep meaning of what “religion” means: as a re-ligamenting of individual selves one to another\, and the self to the divine. Come join us for an exploration of how spiritual health practices can complement physical\, mental\, and psycho-emotional health commitments and contribute to deeper flourishing and wellness. All are welcome. \n– – – \nCAMPFIRE reimagines how we gather as community. Each month\, we bring in guest speakers for a unique\, participatory storytelling experience\, hosted in a subtly ritualized framework\, to explore what most drives\, moves and inspires us. \nCAMPFIRE gatherings are interactive\, dynamic storytelling experiences that thrive on guest participation. Guests are encouraged to arrive early and stay late as we enjoy a festal ‘communion’ of food\, libations\, and conversation together. Above all\, CAMPFIRE aims to create a space for anyone craving meaningful connection. \nCAMPFIRE also supports regular small-group meet-ups for individuals keen on deepening conversation and connection over meals\, film and article discussion\, and skiing / hiking forays into the backcountry. \nA project of St. John’s Episcopal Church\, CAMPFIRE is an inclusive\, celebratory community that affirms and honors the dignity and beauty of every human being. All are welcome\, always. \n\nLearn more at https://www.stjohnsjackson.org/campfire/
